Banks County Primary School Celebrates Multiple Awards for 2024–2025 Academic Achievement

Banks County Primary School returned from a long holiday break to exciting news and well-earned recognition. On January 5, the first day back for students and staff, the school received several awards recognizing student growth, academic achievement, and a strong school culture.

District leaders were on campus to present the awards, including Dr. Ann Hopkins, Superintendent; Joy Edwards, Assistant Superintendent; and Michael Williams, Curriculum Director.

Among the honors, Banks County Primary School received recognition for Kindergarten Reading Rate at 85%, reflecting student growth as measured by i-Ready. The school also earned an award for ACCESS Band Movement, recognizing increased student growth among English Learners (ELs) as measured by ACCESS. ACCESS is the annual English language proficiency test for identified English Learners in grades K–12 and measures progress in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

In addition, the school earned PBIS Operational Level recognition based on state criteria. PBIS, or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, is a schoolwide framework that promotes positive behavior, sets clear expectations, and supports students socially and emotionally so they can thrive in the classroom.

Principal Dr. Mike Boyle shared his pride in the school’s recognition and the dedication of the Banks County Primary School team.

“We know that Expectations influence success. Our school is honored to be recognized for 85% growth in kindergarten reading, being recognized as operational by the State of Georgia for PBIS, and for our increased ESOL student growth on the ACCESS test. We have an amazing staff who love kids, are teaching kids to master standards, and who believe in our students' success!”

Banks County Primary School welcomed students back to campus on January 6 following the holiday break. “Expectations Influence Success” is the school system motto this year, and the recognitions continue to highlight the impact of strong instruction, consistent support, and a shared belief in student achievement.
